Materials & Construction
Most cup holders are made either from metal or plastic. Ideally, you want the mount to be made of metal for stronger fixation and the cup holder may be metal or plastic. We do not recommend getting a fabric cup holder since it easily folds under bottle weight.
Metal
If you choose a metal cup holder – consider either stainless steel or aluminium. Both are corrosion-resistant and have a nice-looking finish.
Plastic
Plastic Cup Holders are as good as a metal for drink transportation. Modern plastics are quite strong and have more than enough rigidity to handle a bottle weight. Moreover, plastic absorbs vibrations better than metal while being lighter. The only plastic drawback is its less authentic looks compared to stainless steel.
Fabric
We do not recommend buying fabric cup holders. Such cup holders fold under weight and fail to handle bumpy roads.
Installation
Where do you want to mount a cup holder? On the handlebar, crash bar, in the passenger seat area, other locations? We recommend using a clutch side perch mount with a ball joint for handlebar installation. Use round handlebar mounts for other locations if there is a tube to attach to.

Reasons to Use Motorcycle Cup Holders
This is an easy way to transport beverages. I myself prefer to buy coffee at the petrol station but drink it in another place with beautiful scenery 5 miles down the road.
Secondly, cup holders may be used as an additional storage space. For example, when you are touring and you want to put a ferry ticket or road pass somewhere you can quickly access them.
Thirdly, keeping yourself hydrated is a good strategy for longer rides. Increasing the time between stops and making you less fatigued. Being able to quickly make couple sips while waiting at a red light goes a long way.

We recommend self-levelling cup holders. Also, the mount should be strong and not slip under cup weight on bumpy roads. The clutch perch mount is the strongest and safest mount in my opinion.
Size and adjustability
We recommend cup holders with a 90mm internal diameter so they would fit a 1-litter water bottle. Internal rubber bottle/cup fixation is a must unless you want a cup to fly out of the cup holder on the first bump.
The cup holder should have a ball joint at the cup base. Such a joint allows to adjust the cup holder for a vertical position. Secondly, the cup holder should be mounted slightly above the handlebar so it would not hit the tank on full lock turns.
How to choose the right cup holder for your motorcycle?
First of all, take a look at your handlebar and check how tall it is. If you have clippons – the cup holder might not be fitted safely.
Now check if the cup holder can be mounted slightly above or below the handlebar. Measure where the cup holder bottom will be and turn the handlebar fully to the right and left to see if it would hit the tank or windshield.
Bottom Line
